When you place a Win bet, your horse must finish first.
If, on the other hand, you go with a Place wager, it can finish first or second for you to win some money.
If you go with a Show wager, your horse can finish first, second, or third. However, if it finishes second or third, you won’t win as much as you would have done if it had finished first.
With the exacta bet, you need to pick two horses and their exact finishing positions (first or second).
With a quinella, you again need to pick two horses, but it doesn’t matter where they finish exactly as long as they’re both in the top two at the end.
With this bet, you must pick three horses to finish first, second, and third. The catch is that they must finish in the exact positions you choose. If you win, the payoff will be huge with this type of bet.
This is like a Trifecta bet, but this time you must pick FOUR horses and their correct fishing positions in the top 4.
In this section of the article, I’m going to share with you a Belmont Stakes strategy that I personally use. It’s actually a really simple strategy that, while it definitely won’t guarantee you results at Belmont Park, it can definitely give you an edge.
Essentially, there are two ingredients to this strategy. First, you need to understand the form. You can listen to podcasts and read racing results to learn more about form.
Second, you need to go beyond the form book by watching races yourself.
The thing is that time is on your side right now. The next event is a whole year away from the time of writing. Once the line-up has been revealed, it’s really important that you take a look at the form book, but that you also watch races on repeat. This will help you to understand the favorites better.
From here, you’ll be in a stronger position to place a few bets. You can go with a Win, Show, and Place bet, but you can also experiment with an Exacta bet. Just be careful to manage your bankroll and to never bet more than you can afford to lose.
Jockeys play an incredibly crucial role in any horse race … but do they know the Belmont Stakes? If you’ve got a jockey who’s riding the favorite, take a closer look at him and his past races. How well does he know this track? If he’s completely clueless, it might be worth betting against him.
Belmont Stakes is a long track. For this reason, consider how geared up the favorites are for such a track. Are they bred to run such a long way? How have they fared in the past on such lengthy tracks? Some horses just aren’t up to the Belmont Stakes, so this is definitely something to think about.
Laying a horse is actually another strategy I use at the Belmont Stakes, although it comes with a degree of risk. I prefer to call this a “tip” in this guide because I don’t think beginners should use it as a complete strategy.
