How To Place An Online Bet On Sports In Four Easy Steps

Looking to get into online sports betting?

In this short guide, we explain how to place a sports bet online. This will help to kickstart your sports betting journey, and we’ll be running you through the whole process, from registering with a sportsbook to clicking that decisive “confirm bet” button.

Let’s start.

Choose a Sports Betting Site

The first thing you need to do on your sports betting journey is finding a sportsbook that’s right for you. This means prioritizing things that matter to you, whether that be sports variety, payment options, user interface, and/or bonuses and offers.

A rule of thumb is to find sports betting online site that offers the sports and markets you’re looking to wager on, and which is easy to use.

Create an Account With a Sportsbook

Creating an account with a sports betting website should be fairly straightforward in theory, and starts with clicking the “sign-up” or “register” button on the homepage.

Then, you just need to follow the onscreen instructions.

However, things can become a tad more complicated if the sportsbooks ask to verify your identity either via your driver’s license, birth certificate, or social security number. As such, you’ll need to have some form of documentation ready.

Lastly, you’ll be asked by the gambling site to choose a payment method.

Deposit Funds

While some sports betting sites offer no deposit welcome bonuses that allow you to place your first bet without making a deposit, most offer first deposit bonuses. This means that, whatever sports betting sites you sign up to, it’s very likely that you’ll need to deposit funds before you can place your first wager.

Just head over to the banking options, click “deposit” and then follow the onscreen instructions.

Place Your Bet

Now that your sports betting account has funds in it, the final step is to actually place your wager on sports.

To do this, you need to, first of all, find the sporting event you want to gamble on. This could be anything – NFL, NHL, NBA, soccer, tennis – whatever you prefer.

Then, click on the sporting event and take a look at the markets.

You’ll notice that, for whatever sport and sporting event you choose, there are several different types of markets and wagers you can place. You also need to decide at this point whether you want to place a pre-game sports bet or an in-play (live) wager.

You could also choose to place a futures wager if you wish, or a multiples bet.

Whatever type of wager you decide you want to place, you should take a look at the odds and weigh them up. Is there value here? Are these odds favorable? Is there a good chance you can win this?

If you’re happy with the selection, it’s time to click it (this is usually done by clicking the odds), and then enter your stake in the box, which is usually located to the right of the screen.

Once you’ve entered your stake, the very last step is to click “confirm bet”.

Once that’s done, your bet is live! Online gambling can be as easy as that, but it’s important that you understand the risk before making a start, and never gamble more than you can afford to lose.
